Weirdale Area Hunting Incident Leads to Charges in the Death of Jordan Darchuk

On December 14, 2017 at 12:30 p.m., Nipawin RCMP arrested, without incident, 22-year-old Austyn Adamko of Prince Albert on charges related to the death of 23 year old Jordan Darchuk.

On Saturday, September 16, 2017 shortly after 8:00 p.m. Nipawin RCMP had responded to a complaint of an injured male located in a rural field 10 kilometers south of Weirdale, SK. Initial investigation has revealed the two males were hunting separately and apart from each other in the same area around 7:30 p.m. The two males were not known to each other. A firearm was discharged and 23-year-old male Jordan Darchuk was located deceased with an apparent gunshot wound. The incident was reported to police by the 22-year-old male, who remained at the scene.

Adamko is charged with:
• 1 count, criminal negligence causing death, section 220(a) of the Criminal Code
• 1 count, careless use of a firearm, section 86(1) of the Criminal Code
• 1 count, unauthorized possession of a firearm, section 92(1) of the Criminal Code
• 1 count, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, section 94 of the Criminal Code

Adamko appeared in Nipawin Provincial Court on December 15 at 10:00 a.m.
