In an announcement on the Village Facebook page on Wednesday, April 4th, 2018, Village Administrator Ashley Lonson announced to the residents that three of the town’s four Councillors had resigned.
Administrator Lonson indicated that Councillors Bulger, Gunnlaugson and Rutherford had submitted immediate resignations, leaving only Councillor Gordon Joyes. The sole Councillor means that a quorum of council can not be met. Lonson stated, “As per the Municipalities Act, I have notified the Ministry of Government Relations who will be appointing an Interim Council and setting a date for a by-election, by Order.”
Notices will be posted in the Village office and at the Codette post office with information from the Ministry as it becomes available to Lonson.
Meanwhile, Administrator Lonson also assured residents that the village administration would be available to assist residents and that Councillor Gordon Joyes could be contacted if residents have concerns.
This follows the recent resignation of Codette’s Mayor Malcom Haveroen announced by the Village Administrator on March 1st, 2018
