Hudson Bay RCMP news
On October 6th, 2017, Hudson Bay RCMP were alerted to a threat made against Hudson Bay Community School via social media. The threat was made by a student from the school who had been sent home.
Upon discovery of the threat, HBCS acted quickly according to their policy by placing the school in a “hold and secure” and advising RCMP.
On duty members were able to locate the suspect within approximately 30 minutes of receiving the report. The student was taken into custody and a charge was laid.
The student is under the age of 18, no further info will be released on their identity or details of the charge. Hudson Bay RCMP found no further danger to the school and the hold and secure was lifted after approximately one hour.
RCMP members train regularly for situations such as this. We work closely with local schools to ensure that situations such as this can be brought to a quick and safe resolution. We commend the staff at the school for their quick and decisive action in this matter.
For clarity, Hold and secure means the exterior school doors are locked. No persons are allowed to enter or exit without an escort. It is business as usual within the school. Often children will not even realize that the school has been placed in hold and secure.
