Creighton District Northern Enforcement Initiative – News Release
On November 18 and 19, 2017, RCMP from Prince Albert, Sandy Bay and Pelican Narrows, Prince Albert Traffic Services, and officers from the Ministry of Environment, conducted two days of enforcement on roads in the Creighton area, performing check stops targeting alcohol and traffic-related offences.
As a result of this targeted enforcement:
· Between 300-400 vehicles were stopped and checked;
· Two Criminal Code warrants were executed;
· Three people were charged under the Criminal Code for breaching probation;
· One person was charged under the Criminal Code for breaching a prohibition order;
· Two people were charged under the Criminal Code for theft under $5,000;
· Two people were charged under the Criminal Code for possession of stolen property;
· Two people were arrested under the Criminal Code for taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent;
· Seven people were charged for canvassing (“bootlegging”) under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act;
· One person was charged for open liquor under the Traffic Safety Act;
· One person was charged for an offence under the Vehicle Equipment Regulations Act;
· and 12 warnings were issued under the Traffic Safety Act.
A significant amount of alcohol, with an estimated re-sale value of over $13,000, was seized during this initiative.
The RCMP will be conducting similar initiatives in various northern communities throughout the year. The primary objective of these enforcements is to disrupt the supply of alcohol destined for illegal resale.
