Spotlight on Nipawin – 30 Businesses – 30 Days
From Debbie and Barry Chessall, owners of Nipawin Computer Solutions; We purchased Nipawin Computer Solutions in January of 2016. Prior to 2016 the business was providing the town of Nipawin and the surrounding area with computer and computer peripheral sales and service along with stationary, printers, ink and toner and we continued to carry on with the same business model to begin with.
The store had a steady and loyal customer base with the existing products and services. However, there was a lot of empty space in the store, and we knew prior to purchasing it that we wanted to expand the store so it could be utilized for additional products. Our plan was to entice more of the residents of the community to shop locally, many of whom were traveling to the city for services and products, some of which were not available in Nipawin.
In an attempt to keep consumers shopping local and at our store we decided to enter into a buying group, and this proved to be a great decision. This has opened up the doors to many new supplies and products while allowing us to stay competitive with the city stores.
The buying group has allowed us to offer services, such as supervised back up services, as well as becoming a Microsoft cloud-based product provider, among many other state-of the art services you would normally only find in the city.
Not long after the buying group addition we brought Telus to Nipawin and along with it a large renovation of the store. That provided work for our local contractors, as well as completely revamping our store front with some large new illuminated signs. Telus has proven to be a great addition to our store and community. The Nipawin Telus branch is very unique because unlike other Telus stores we offer services for consumer, business and corporate customers.
This uniqueness allows us to sell the fleet tracking service called Fleet Complete, a vehicle GPS service that tracks and monitors vehicles and driver habits, as well as an ELD (Electronic Logging Device) called BigRoad. These products have allowed us to offer services to small and large businesses while putting Nipawin on the map.
People from Carrot River, Tisdale, Hudson Bay, Melfort and other areas, who once traveled to Prince Albert for their Telus needs, now make Nipawin their destination, and I’m assuming they shop elsewhere while in our beautiful community.
While our Telus renovations were underway, we were contacted by Access Communications to expand our current services with them. We added to our current offering, enhanced TV packages, WiFi options and home and business security systems. Access customers could now pickup or drop off Access equipment at our store, providing them even more convenience.
Just recently we have completed some additional renovations to accommodate our line of Samsung Smart TV’S and home theatre packages. Along with that renovation that allows us to showcase our TV’s as large as 82”, we have added a theatre room allowing our customers to view and listen to our Samsung products. We are also showcasing the Samsung SmartThings product line that can turn your home into a “Smart Home” that includes home security systems with no monthly fees.
