On January 18, 2018, Melfort RCMP in combination with the Prince Albert Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) conducted a Controlled Substances and Drugs Act (CDSA) investigation resulting in the arrest of two individuals. Varying quantities of drugs (including methamphetamine, cocaine and marihuana) were seized along with a quantity of cash.
38-year-old Lawrence Buhay of Melfort, Saskatchewan is charged with:
- Possession of Proceeds of Crime, Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code x 2
- Trafficking Crystal Methamphetamine, Section 5(1) of the CDSA x2
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Marihuana, Section 5(2) of the CDSA
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Crystal Methamphetamine, Section 5(2) of the CDSA
- Possession of Cocaine, Section 4(1) of the CDSA
- Possession of Cannabis Resin, Section 4(1) of the CDSA
18-year-old Maury Nicholson of Melfort, Saskatchewan is charged with:
- Possession of Proceeds of Crime, Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code x 2
- Trafficking Crystal Methamphetamine, Section 5(1) of the CDSA x2
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Marihuana, Section 5(2) of the CDSA
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Crystal Methamphetamine, Section 5(2) of the CDSA
- Possession of Cocaine, Section 4(1) of the CDSA
- Possession of Cannabis Resin, Section 4(1) of the CDSA
Buhay and Nicholson are scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on January 23, 2018.
The Saskatchewan Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit is a province-wide integrated policing task force with units in Prince Albert as well as in Saskatoon and Regina. CFSEU was formed with a mandate to target criminal organizations operating within the participating agencies jurisdictions.
