Legion Lines by Verda Hoppe

September 23rd’s Saturday Supper was courtesy of Joanne Thomson where she served Chicken pot pie, salads, buns and raisin pudding. Thank you for your work Joanne!

Don’t forget the regular Sept. General meeting is Mon., 7 pm in the meeting room. Update of Branch bylaws and filling the spot on executive after the resignation of Kevin Stene are on the agenda. Initial plans for Nov. 11 will also be discussed. The Poppy Day canvass by local cadets and the Poppy Day tea are set for Sat., Nov. 4.

Another death in our Legion family with the sudden passing of Rolie Morris last Saturday. Condolences to wife Theresa, son Jay, daughter Amber, and families. He was a great brother-in-law…gone far too soon.

Thanks to Helen, Pam, and Roberta for prep work on luncheon Helen and I served for Chamber of Commerce last Tuesday. It was an important meeting with information provided by accountant Gerhardt Neumann on implications of proposed tax changes for farmers and small business owners.

Big kudos to Helen, Pam, Roberta, and Darwyn who took on a thorough cleaning of the kitchen and reorganization…hopefully those who use it can try to keep things in their place!

Everyone eagerly awaiting the return of “Chase the Ace” to the Legion this Thursday with the proceeds for the pool change room upgrades. The Nipawin firemen will be cooking the meal which begins at 5 pm in the upper hall. Come enjoy a good meal, help a great cause, enjoy visiting with your friends and maybe even win some cash!

We extend best wishes to Dawn Zurloff who is on medical leave. Meagan Lyons will be temporary lounge worker while she is gone.

Bingo chair Pam Senger is in dire need of bingo volunteers…especially callers! Please consider helping out so the same people don’t have to work multiple times in a month! Kitchen chair Helen Hodgson is also looking for those willing to cook or help cook a Saturday supper. Please call them or contact lounge and leave your name and number and they will get back to you.
