Legion Lines by Verda Hoppe

One more week and we hit the busiest month of the Legion year!
It begins this Friday with the kickoff of the Poppy campaign. Legionnaires will be placing poppy sales trays at area businesses as well as canvassing for donations for wreaths to be displayed until Nov.11 in honour of all those who sacrificed to give us the freedoms we enjoy. Wear your poppy over your heart in remembrance.

Every year, The Royal Canadian Legion conducts the Poppy campaign, along with thousands of our members who volunteer from coast to coast to coast, to raise funds in support of Veterans and their families. Poppies are distributed freely, but your generous donations are invaluable. All donations to the Poppy Fund are placed in trust to be used for the care and benevolent support of Veterans and their dependents and are tightly controlled. Locally, funds have gone to the local nursing home, Tisdale dialysis unit, to support the Air Cadet squadron, as well as to individual veterans or their families who need support.

Our October general meeting is Monday, October 30, 7 pm in the meeting room. We should hear reports from provincial convention held in Estevan this month. Congratulations to our new Provincial President Lorne Varga, 1st VP Keith Andrews and Vps Carol Pedersen and Roberta Taylor.

Don’t forget our annual Poppy Day tea will be Sat., Nov.4 from 2-4 pm. Come enjoy some refreshments and entertainment. There will be no bake sale this year.
