Legion Lines by Verda Hoppe

A busy weekend at the Legion coming up as we welcome the Lions Club who will be hosting a convention from Friday to Sunday in our hall. Therefore there will be no Saturday supper this week. Also Saturday supper will move to 5 pm on Dec. 2 and for the next few weeks to accommodate Christmas parties in the lounge and because it’s nice to get home earlier on cold nights.

The Community drama was held Sat. and Sun. and will perform once more for the Lions on Friday night. Congratulations to Director Pat Butt and all the volunteers for another enjoyable production and to Doreen Bleich for her writing skills! Nice to see some new faces on stage…well done.

Don’t forget the regular monthly member meeting is Mon., Nov. 27, 7 pm in the meeting room.

It is time to renew! The new 2018 membership cards are available at the lounge or by mailing your $55 fee to Box 1324, Nipawin. The new cards are plastic and will be good for five years and a renewal sticker will just be added yearly. You may also use etransfer if you wish by accessing nipawin.legion@sasktel.net.

Our annual Christmas party is set for Sat.,Dec. 16 with supper by Celia at 5 pm and social and gift exchange with a visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus. Children and grandchildren welcome. Bring a gift for Santa to distribute. Supper tickets are $10 and available at the lounge, under 12 are $5, preschoolers free.

A big thank you to Stacy Vik for grading and filling potholes in the parking lot prior to Nov.11!

Comrade Grace Grandfield is now a resident at Pineview Lodge…she is enjoying her new home and welcomes visitors.

If you have a years of service pin due for the last couple of years, they may be picked up at the Legion and we appreciate you bringing your past years one(s) to save buying new ones. They are given out for every five years as a member. Check your membership card. Some members will notice they may have lost a year…this is a result of change in database at Dominion Command which is not recognizing a year if you joined after July.

If you are looking for a Christmas gift for a Legionnaire there are shirts and various other items on display in the lounge or may be ordered from the Legion catalogue in time for Christmas. Of course Poppy items are for anyone and there are some beautiful items like scarves, bags, jewelry, cell phone cases, umbrellas, bird feeders and more. Items for dart players are also available.
