Sandy Bay RCMP Release 2017-10-11 – 12:30 p.m.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Monday Oct. 9, 2017, Sandy Bay RCMP responded to a report of an unresponsive, adult male in that community.
19-year-old Jared Phillip Merasty received medical attention at the Sandy Bay Health Centre, but later died from his injuries.
On Oct. 10, Sandy Bay RCMP arrested a male youth in connection with Merasty’s death. He has been charged with Second-degree murder – sec. 231(7) CC
The accused cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He is remanded in custody and scheduled to appear in Pelican Narrows Provincial Court via closed-circuit video at 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 12, 2017.
This investigation is ongoing with assistance from Major Crimes Unit South and RCMP Identification Section.
