August 21, 2018 – 11:21 am – Nipawin Firefighters were called to the scene of a fire in the RM of Torch River.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the fire was consuming a row of approximately 300 round bales.
Efforts to control the fire are being hampered by high winds, and of concern is keeping the fire back from the crop in a neighboring field.
Firefighters appreciate the assistance of local contractors that provided equipment to combat the fire, and foam that was obtained from the Carrot River and Smeaton Fire Departments.
The fire was contained to the hay bales, all were destroyed. Crews worked until 10:45 pm to extinguish the fire.
Cause of the fire is under investigation.
