Wounded Warriors Hit By Thieves

(Last Updated On: June 13, 2018)

Sometime between Monday June 11th and the early evening of Tuesday June 12th, a 9.9 HP Mercury boat motor was stolen off the boat being raffled by the Wounded Warriors.

The boat and motor are being raffled to raise funds for Wounded Warriors Weekend, and while the organization has insurance coverage, the $1,000 deductible will hit the group hard.

“It’s equivalent to 2 books of tickets sold,”, Gord Joyes told Nipawin News. Gord was just preparing leave for Saskatoon where the boat and motor were to be on display at the Cabela’s store for Thursday June 14th and Friday June 15th, in order to sell tickets.

Cabela’s is holding their “Cabela’s Canada Hometown Heroes Event” from Thursday, June 14 until  Sunday, June 17 and invited the Wounded Warriors to participate in the event.

As our way of showing appreciation to our local heroes, we are offering a store-wide discount of 5% to active military, veterans, law enforcement, firefighters, EMS personnel, Canadian coast guards, and conservation officers.” – Cabela’s Saskatoon website. In addition to the Wounded Warriors, Cabela’s will be hosting a variety of other events such as Crime Stoppers, Saskatoon Search & Rescue, Vcourt Ultraskiff, Living Sky Wildlife Rehabilitation, Fish Decorating for kids, and many other activities. You can learn more about what’s going on on the Cabela’s website.

With such a massive event it was to be a great opportunity to get tickets sold for the raffle, Doug has not let the theft of the boat motor slow him down. He’ll still be displaying the boat at Cabela’s, and letting ticket buyers know the motor will be replaced for the winner.

If you have any information related to the theft of the boat motor, please contact Nipawin RCMP at 306-862-6070

If you would like to purchase tickets or offer any help to the Wounded Warriors organization, please call Gord Joyes at 306-812-7176

ABOUT WOUNDED WARRIORS WEEKEND – From the Wounded Warriors Foundation website

“We are a band of brothers and sisters who have joined together with one common goal: to show and express our heartfelt appreciation to our veterans, reservists, active duty military, and first responders who are challenged by physical and/or mental wounds sustained by active participation in recent or past military conflicts and duties.

Wounded Warriors Weekend is an annual event that hosts heroes who sacrificed so much for us. These men and women have sacrificed their own physical and mental well-being in order that we may live in freedom, peace, safety, and security; from the Victoria Cross and Medal of Honour Recipients who wrote the book on courage; to the brave injured men and women who come home with their lives irreparably changed but without bitterness; and to the troops on active duty who put their lives on the line for the freedom it affords all of us.

Wounded Warriors Weekend is a time for patriots, our partners, sponsors, honoured guests and friends to salute our Wounded Warriors, to thank them, to let them know they are not alone, that their courage and conviction make us profoundly grateful.
Founded in 2012 by a retired air force veteran, Wounded Warriors Weekend has evolved to include not only Veterans and Active Duty Military Personnel but also Police Officers, Trauma nurses, Correctional Officers, Firefighters, RCMP, EMTs ,First Responders and their families.

We bring participants from Canada as well as the USA, the UK and Australia to experience a trusting, anxiety free, stress free weekend. We bring in resources and professionals that get to know each and every person with us that weekend.
Each of our participants goes home with new memories, a renewed sense of hope, and new friends, brothers and sisters.”
