Aaron Dyck, Councillor of the Town of Carrot River formally resigned from Council of the Town of Carrot River.
Dyck’s resignation letter touched on the reasoning for his departure,
“Due to my new job, I am working away and unable to properly perform my duties that I was elected to perform. I have enjoyed my time on council and have learned a lot in the time that I have served. My experience was very positive and I appreciate the support I received from the members of the community my fellow Council Members, the Mayor, and the Town Administrator. I give my best wishes to the Town and Council in the work they are doing to continue progress in moving forward and growing the community.”
In a committee meeting, held last week, Mayor Gagne thanked Aaron for, at first letting his name stand for election and then serving his constituents so well this past 11 months. Serving the community on Council is not for the faint of heart, Aaron’s professional work and collaborative approach on Council, as well as the maturity that he continually displays, are just a few of the traits that make him an excellent community leader. He will be missed on our team.
Councillor Dyck was the youngest candidate for Council in a group of seven candidates nominated for election in October of 2016. With his election, Dyck quickly stepped up to the plate to work with Council to develop a strategic plan and has played an instrumental role on the recreation board since his election.
Dyck’s departure leaves a vacancy to be filled on Council. The Municipalities Act prescribes that a byelection be held within six months of the resignation. The Mayor and five remaining Council members are expected to set the date for a by-election at the October 18 meeting of Council. Committee assignments are being temporarily backfilled by current Council members.
