RM of Torch River Rate Payer Speaks Up at Council Meeting

At the December 8th, 2017 regular meeting of the RM of Torch River Council, Dalton Clifford stood up to speak to the remaining council members on behalf of a group of concerned ratepayers. Mr. Clifford has been involved with recent informal meetings and discussions with over 60 other ratepayers, who feel that the RM of Torch River council and operations have many serious issues they feel need to be addressed. RM of Torch River Begins Work on Capital Plan & 2018 Operating Budget

On Monday, December 4th the RM of Torch River #488 held a special council meeting to discuss the municipality’s Capital Plan budget and 2018 Operating Budget.
All current councilors were present, Division 2 Councilor, Carissa Schmidt, Division 3 Councilor, Peter Lubyk, Division 6 Councilor, Tom Jensen with Division 1 Councilor, David LaRose, chairing the meeting. RM Superintendent Murray Black and Administrator Nathalie Hipkins were also present.
The meeting was the early stage of the Draft Budget planning for 2018 and reviewing and revising as necessary the long term plan, into 2019 and 2020, though no decisions where made at this meeting and any topics to be voted on where deferred to be addressed at a regular council meeting. RM of Torch River’s Former Reeve and Division 4 Councilor Clarify Reasons for Their Resignations

Since the November 10th regular meeting in which former Reeve, Louise Nicklen and Division 4 Councilor, Michelle Fox-Waddington, handed in their resignations from the RM of Torch River council, rumours and speculation have run rampant among ratepayers. Little has been said publicly to date as all parties concerned, along with many ratepayers, have attempted to consult lawyers and reach out to agencies such as SARM (Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities) and the Ombudsman. Ratepayer Questions RM of Torch River Road Conditions and Policies

On Friday, November 10th, Gary Francis addressed the Rural Municipality of Torch River #488 council with questions and concerns in relation to road maintenance and snow removal as well as accumulated repairs required, due to what many ratepayers feel results from years of inadequate planning and maintenance. White Fox Bridge Closed Temporarily for Repairs – Re-opened December 6th, 2017

The RM of Torch River issues a notice that the White Fox Bridge will be temporarily closed for repairs beginning November 14, 2017. Detours and signage are in place.
