The Ministry of Environment indicated in an update on September 1, 2017, at 4:15 p.m. they are directing almost all provincial wildfire fighting resources to several fires in the Pelican Narrows area, including an incident command team, air tankers, crews, heavy equipment and helicopters. With the nearby Harding fire under control, our local contractors that were called up to the Jan Lake and Pelican Narrows area are working long hours to protect homes and buildings from nearby fires.
Highway 106 from the Junction of Highway 135 to Creighton is closed due to the Granite wildfire crossing the highway. 17LF-HARDING – Status as of August 15th, 2017
Though currently listed as Not Contained, the fire is subdued and will be re-evaluated later today, according to Lyle Prokopetz, Forest Protection Officer for Lower Fishing Lake Forest Protection Base. The fire is currently mapped as covering 1,885 hectares (approximately 4,658 acres) and there are 50 firefighters, 2 helicopters, and one water truck continuing to fight the fire.
Since July 31st, no residences were affected, though one trapper’s cabin was lost during the initial stages of the fire.
