Stanley Custer was located deceased on the south shore of Cross Lake today at approximately 2:30 p.m. by community searchers. His death is not considered suspicious. Initial indications are that he died of exposure.
The RCMP would like to extend condolences to the family and thank the community for their overwhelming response to the search effort.
On October 19 at 8:40 am Cumberland House RCMP received a complaint of a missing person. 20-year-old Stanley Benjamin Custer was last seen in the later afternoon of October 18 in a paddle boat on Cross River near Bud’s Point, which is almost nine kilometers east of Cumberland House. His paddle boat has since been located on the south shore of Cross Lake, but Custer has not been located.
Custer is an avid outdoorsman and was wearing an orange toque the time he was last seen.
Cumberland House RCMP continue to work with the community and partner agencies in their investigation. CASARA conducted an aerial search yesterday – they will continue searching October 20, weather permitting.
