UPDATE: Special weather statement upgraded to WIND WARNING 3:44 AM CST Tuesday 17 October 2017
A very intense low pressure system will move through Alberta today and through central Saskatchewan tonight. This system will begin to spread very strong wind gusts of 90 to 100 km/h to southern Saskatchewan beginning late this afternoon. In addition, certain wind prone areas just in the lee of the Cypress Hills may see gusts of 110 km/h.
The strong winds will abate overnight or early Wednesday as this weather system tracks into Manitoba.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the southern half of the province including Nipawin and surrounding communities. Strong, gusty winds are expected Tuesday October 17th and Wednesday October 18th.
An intense low pressure system is forecast to track through the eastern Prairies over the next few days. Winds gusts of up to and possibly exceeding 90 km/h are expected to develop over southwest Saskatchewan Tuesday afternoon.
Gusts of 90 km/h will expand east to affect the rest of southern Saskatchewan overnight Tuesday with the passage of the cold front. Strong winds will slowly weaken Wednesday afternoon.
Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Uncertainty still exists in the exact track and intensity of the low pressure system. Wind warnings are likely to be issued for parts of Southern Saskatchewan.
